Besides of visiting the emblematic square Djeema el Fna, getting lost in the souks of the Medina and seeing classic sites like the Islamic school Mederasa Ali Ben Youssef, here are the five things you should add to your list when visiting colourful Marrakech.

Enjoy a lunch menu at El Fenn

“A bit luxe & a lot laid back” – this is how the Riyad El Fenn describes themselves on Instagram and after having a look at their account (+ 65k followers!) you’ll understand why you have to come here. The design, interior and atmosphere is to die for! If a night here is over your budget (it was for us), then a delicious lunch will do the trick.

Tip: After enjoying the lunch, ask to have the dessert served in the relaxing lounge area

Visit Musée de la Photographie

If you are into pretty tiles, photography and history, you won’t go wrong when visiting Musée de la Photographie. The place is quite small so you won’t spend much more than a hour there, but it is definitely worth visiting.
Do yourself a favour and enjoy a tea on the roof top terrace afterwards; the view overlooking the city is impressive and leaves you with the feeling that despite the tourism in Marrakech, the place still retains it’s authenticity.

A private cooking class at the Riyad Dar Les Cigognes is an extremely fun and intimate way to get closer to the Moroccan food culture. The day starts with a market tour to pick up grocery for the meal accompanied by Pierre, who is French, but has been living in Marrakech for a decade. He literally knows everyone at the market and will make sure you also will!
Once back in the kitchen of the Riyad, the chef (who is former private chef for the Prince of Qatar) teaches you how to cook a traditional meal of your liking.
Lastly the meal is served in the stunning surroundings at the Riyad.

Have lunch at the cosy restaurant and boutique La Famille

La Famille is the place you should go when the streets of the Medina feels a little too dusty and the atmosphere too busy. It is a little green oasis with light food and a relaxed atmosphere tucked away from the hustle and bustle. And their little boutique just makes the place even more visit worthy.

Treat yourself to a luxurious hammam

Morocco is famous for their hammams, so a trip to Morocco without a little treat just won’t be correct. There are lots of hammams throughout the city and I can recommend having a treatment at hotel La Maison Arabe, which is an authentic Moroccan luxury hotel with a beautiful spa.

Obviously a hammam is not a suitable place to take pictures – so no pictures here – sorry!

TIP: Drink a lot of water before entering as it is extremely hot and humid inside the hammam!
