After the longest and warmest summer in Danish history it’s time to welcome fall. The beginning is always a bit hard (for me at least) as the post summer blues hits and reminds me that I’ll have to wait around nine months for another round of summer (which is my favourite season of the year). But, when the post summer blues is over and the weather starts giving us those fresh fall mornings and the colours in nature turn yellow and red, I always end up convinced that we are very lucky to have different seasons. Because fall is beautiful, it really is. And it’s a great time for some weekend get-aways. Here I have collected some ideas for a fantastic get-away this fall:
Ideas for a European fall weekend away
Fall in Paris
Paris is just always a good idea, right? Especially in fall where the parks and trees along the Seine are changing colours. There’s just something about the crisp air in that city in fall. The last two times I visited have been in fall and it was just perfect. Find my guide to Paris here (might be a bit old, but most places are still worth visiting – breakfast at Season is for example a great choice still!).

Tapas and wine in Seville
Seville is the heart of southern Spain and a real charmeuse. Go to Seville for a weekend away with tapas in the sun, lots of culture in the old city, horse carriages in the streets and wine, lots of red wine.
We stayed in a charming little hotel (don’t remember the name) when we visited and if I go again I would save up beforehand and stay at the impressive Alfonso XIII. It’s just stunning! If I don’t get to save up (which honestly is more realistic) I would probably chose Posada Lucero, where they have a roof top pool for those warm Sevillan fall afternoons.
“Fika” in Stockholm
Stockholm is such an amazing city. It is a kind of southern mentality meeting nordic style. There is a great culture for “fika” which means going our for coffee and a sweet treat and there are many wonderful cafés to drop into. In the evenings the Swedes have tradition for enjoying a cocktail before the dinner and end up dining at south Europe time (+ 20 p.m.).
In Stockholm I would stay at one of these two hotels: Story hotel or Hotel Diplomat. Two very different hotels (also different budgets), I have stayed at both and loved them in each their way.

Interior shopping in Gotenburg
Gothenburg is a perfect city for interior shopping. Read my previous post about it here. It’s also a perfect city to visit if you only have one night to deal with. It’s not too big, not too small. Just perfect for two days.
I recommend Hotel Flora, which has a perfect location, is very charming and great value for money.
Market days in London
London is a brilliant choice for almost everything; culture, shopping, dining, drinking, theaters you name it. But one thing London is exceptional good at, is vintage markets. There are many different markets around the city, both indoor and outdoor. They sell everything from handmade pottery, ceramics and books to clothes, accessories and vintage furniture. If you’re into treasure hunting, then London is just for you.
Old Spitalfields Market, Brick Lane Market, Portobello Market, Camden Market and Borough Market are worth visiting.
In London I would stay at The Hoxton or Rosewood London (the latter would be if I didn’t have to care about the money obviously).

Tile-hunting in Lisbon
Lisbon. The only city on this list that I haven’t visited myself. I had planned to go there this fall, but unfortunately we had to change plans 😦 Anyway, in Lisbon I would go crazy taking pictures of all the beautiful tiles, sip wine from one of the many sky bars, go shopping in A Vida Portuguesa and eat fish at A Cevicheria. I have to go. It would have been the perfect fall trip. Maybe next year!
When I manage to go there I would definitely stay at these fancy apartments, where the breakfast is brought to your door every morning and there is a delicious restaurant just around the corner.
Shopping in Milan
Milan is a perfect weekend away city. Many flights (often at a low price), good restaurants and shopping. Find my Milan city guide here. I have been in Milan a couple of times and the best hotel experience has undoubtedly been at Senato Hotel. Read my review about it here.
