Welcome to My Travel Atelier

Christina Rovira

Hi, I am Christina. A 32-year old Spanish- Danish travel writer, mother and wife. I have written here on My Travel Atelier since 2015 alongside my “real” job in the hotel industry. By the end of 2018 my husband & I jumped right into an uncertain future when we quit our 9-5 jobs to travel in Latin America and work online. Since then, my posts are mostly evolving around travelling with a toddler, working online and all the fabulous and not so fabulous things we experience along the way.

Welcome!

Instagram post 2167578191152619131_287322183 Our schedule the past two days: A morning visit to the police office to (finally) get my residency card for Spain ➡️ Flight to Copenhagen ➡️ Hugs, kisses and dinner with the family ➡️ Say goodbye to our tenant who has lived in our apartment the past 10 months ➡️ Prepare the apartment for the new tenants who arrive on Sunday (+ cry a little because I'm so sentimental about that apartment ♥️) ➡️ Pack stuff to ship to Barcelona as we're staying there long term ➡️ Fix insurance by phone for our Barcelona apartment at the same time ➡️ Ohh and answer regular business mails...
Pfew, it's been some hectic days! Tomorrow we'll celebrate my dad who turns 60 and on Sunday Lasse is flying back to Barcelona, while Julian and I will catch up with friends and fam here in Copenhagen over the next week (+ eat hindbærsnitter every day 😋).
.
No pretty autumn pics of Copenhagen to share as we've been busy, so here's an evening photo from our balcony in Barcelona 😍

What are your weekend plans? ✨
Instagram post 2160487110028148152_287322183 Thanking the owners of this first floor apartment for making my walk to and from Julian's daycare a visual treat 🌿🌱☘️
.
When I think of Barcelona, I think of the classy flower shaped tiles and buildings like this ✨
.
What comes to your mind when thinking about Barcelona?
Instagram post 2156903844532559819_287322183 Many things haven't gone our way since we arrived here in Barcelona, but at least we've been super lucky to find an incredible apartment (ok, very old, tired apartment, but with lots of light, great views and potential) AND this gorgeous cafe (sistercafe to @espaijoliu ) has recently opened just across the street 🌱🌿☘️ Plant + coffee happiness on my doorstep✅
So, it seems like the universe is telling us that we're welcome here (even though a broken washing machine + no warm water for two days made us feel the opposite yesterday...)😍
Instagram post 2155249372479854247_287322183 One month ago today: On the way from Mexico City to Barcelona ✈️
.
Our beginning here hasn’t been as smooth as we could have wished for, but this weekend we’ve moved into our new home and things are slowly getting into place.

Practicalities have been quite a hassle, but the feeling of choosing this city as our home couldn’t be better, and that’s the most important 🖤

I'm looking forward to sharing hundreds of photos of our new life here in my favorite city 📸
Instagram post 2136569486638546667_287322183 8 months
11 flights
10 long bus trips
10 days with rental car
Countless Uber rides and crazy taxi drives
20 Airbnbs/homes

Our Mexican adventure is officially over and we're back in Europe✨ It's been one long journey without a single delay, cancellation, lost luggage, theft, accident or any other bad experience. We haven't even had the famous travel stomach (aka diarrhea) and we have eaten plenty of street food. And no, we haven't used that silly solution you can buy to "clean" your fruit and veggies!

Why am I saying that?

Because when we left Denmark 8 months ago people would ask "how dare you travel to Mexico with a child?"
Well, we dared because we knew that Mexico is more than Narcos, gunshots and all the other stuff the media is trying to tell us.

So, conclusion of this caption:

1. The world can be dangerous, but it can also be beautiful and amazing 💫
2. We could have saved our 2200€ travel insurance 😂 💸💸
.
Now, we don't talk about our final flight home that was cancelled (European airline!) or all the stuff we have lost because we have forgotten it along the way🤦
Instagram post 2131515652501167712_287322183 Favourite corner 🌱🌿☘️ Yesterday I was told that CDMX is the capital in the world with most trees 🌳 Now, I haven't done my research to know if it's actually true, but I wouldn't be surprised as there are literally trees on every street here. If it wasn't so far away from our family and friends, we could easily have settled down in this amazing city ✨
Instagram post 2130338894695575802_287322183 Back in the city and couldn't be happier 💫
It's funny how things often turn out to be the total opposite than expected:

When we left Denmark we thought we would find a remote little beach town to call home. Living peacefully by a beach sounds so idyllic, right? But every time we have stayed in small beach towns during this trip, we have ended up missed the city sooo much!

We just love city life! Having people around us and places to hang out nearby. Waking up early and seeing the city awake. And dressing in something else than beachwear 👒👗💄👡
.
Maybe it'll change someday, but for now the city is what we love the most for a living. And when combined with some sweet escapes to those idyllic quiet places during weekends or holidays you have the perfect match if you ask me (another reason for choosing Barcelona as our home is the proximity to beach towns + mountains 💦)
.
Who else prefer the vibrant city life over the idyllic country-side/coastal dream? 🙋
Instagram post 2129318518670738607_287322183 We're back in Mexico City and it's absolutely wonderful 🙌

And it's fall now (haven't seen signs of anything else than summer since we were here the last time in January)🍂🍁 Can't believe it's been 8 months since we arrived to this huge city in winter with no idea of where we would be just a month ahead.

Yesterday we walked all day and it was a treat and something we really missed during our time in Playa (as weird as it might sound, then there's not really anywhere to walk in Playa and the temperatures do not exactly invite for a day of walking 🌡️). So yesterday we walked and walked and walked. And stopped by parks (there are sooo many parks in this city☘️🌱🌳) and drank coffee and had lunch between locals who were in the park for their Sunday picnic.

All is good and Mexico City is so very different from what most people think ✨ We're soaking it all in before we return to Europe on Saturday.

In the pic is hotel Condesa DF located just in front of our Airbnb 📷
